THE LILAC ZONE

This is 'Primrose'! This cultivar is technically classified as a "white" lilac, but for all intents and purposes, it produces blooms of a buttery yellow, especially when the florets first open up. Alas, to date, there is no official "yellow" category of lilacs.

There is some evidence that some specimens of 'Primrose' can exhibit more yellow than others. It could very well be that it is not the actual specimen per se, but the deeper coloration being a result of the environment, including the climate and soil. I am currently testing to see if this might be the case, having procured a number of specimens from around the country thought to have a richer hue of yellow, to compare whether certain ones continue to produce florets as yellow as they were in the area where they originated from.
